Postby Imonk on Mon Sep 26, 2011 3:22 pm

A series of cultural activities (live music, spoken word, art) to celebrate the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty (October 17th) in association with ATD FOURTH WORLD and Camden Calling. To recognise the hard work and aspirations of people who are struggling to make ends meet and the organisations which support them.

All events are free to enter but donations are appreciated and will help us with future projects.

FRIDAY 14TH OCTOBER 2011

8PM ONWARDS: Event Launch:
SALTWATER SAMURAI live and supported by Kevin Huxley (plus guests) St. Gile's Church, 81 Camberwell Church Street, SE5 7RF.

SALTWATER SAMURAI are a five-piece Jazzcore disco-house ensemble from New Cross who take pride in defying convention; blending house beats and dub basslines with jazz inflected improvising and glitch.

They have played alongside exciting bands such as The Invisible and 12 Tone Brass Band, and have also been played on the legendary Giles Peterson's Radio 1 show.

In 2011 Saltwater Samurai were selected to play the BBC Introducing stage at the Cheltenham Jazz Festival and their set broadcast on BBC's 'Jazz on 3' programme. This led to shows at London's esteemed Vortex Jazz Club and the Queen Elizabeth Hall.

Alongside Saltwater Samurai will be speakers and stands with information on local organisations to get the weekend off to a musical start.
